Finding current and local scrap metal prices has always been a hassle. Most times you do a search and all you will find is some price from a foreign metals market. That is fine if you are company that deals in tons of raw metals.
However, for those who are looking to go to the local scrap metal yard, the pricing you see makes very little sense. All we want to know is what is the current going rate for some scrap we just cleaned out of the garage, yard or basement.
That is where ScrapYardPrices.com comes into play. We will be scouring our resources to bring you weekly updates on the 3 quadrants of the U.S. (Northeast, West and South).
We will be posting these on our site to give you a general idea of what the current scrap metal rate is.
There are many different popular types of scrap metals. Most of the more popular one's are copper, aluminum, brass, steel, tin and cast iron. These popular material comprise of most of the everyday metal products that consumers come in contact with day after day. Some popular examples using these products are:
Copper: wiring (electrical) and tubing (usually water supply line)
Aluminum: soda and beer cans
Brass: water supply line fittings
Steel: car parts and other stuff found around the home and garage, including washer machines and dryers
Tin: tin cans, old metal roofing (tin roof)
Cast Iron: car parts, old home radiators, old boilers and furnace pieces and any older heating piping and stuff found in garages.
Carbide: inserts from your shop, drill bits, saw blades. Carbide can bring good money and is usually at least twice the value of copper.
Remember, after you identify this stuff, and you get a general idea of amounts or weights, each yard still sets their own prices, but this will at the very least, get you in the ballpark.
